Dr. Perry L. Adkisson

The Perry Adkisson Distinguished Seminar Speaker Award wasconceivedandimplemented in 2007 to promote the Entomology Department at Texas A&M University and excellence in faculty research in the diverse sub-disciplines of Entomology.  Perry Adkisson served as the Department Head of the Entomology Department at Texas A&M from 1967-1978 and as Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System from 1986-1990.  He was an outstanding scientist, an elected member of the National Academy, and the first ever recipient of all three of the worlds major prizes in agriculture, the Alexander von Humboldt Award, the Wolf Prize, and the World Food Prize.  He, along with Dr. Ray Smith developed what we now know as IPM or Integrated Pest Management.
